Swift started to exhibit an interest in the music industry from a very young age. The trajectory of her career was rapid from children's play roles to her first appearance on stage in the presence of thousands. She was age 11 when she sang The Star-Spangled Banner before a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. the following year she picked up the guitar and began to write songs. Swift created original music that was inspired by country artists like Shania Twain (now known as the Chicks), and Dixie Chicks. Her material reflected Swift's experiences with tweens and the feeling of alienation. In the year 13 Swift's parents sold their property in Pennsylvania to move towards Hendersonville Tennessee so she could dedicate more time to wooing labels from the country near Nashville.
